Drug Addiction Aftercare Program

A drug addiction aftercare program helps recovering addicts cope with the facets of everyday life and avoid relapse.

Drug addiction is a chronic disease, and recovery is a lifelong commitment. Substance abuse treatment gives you the skills and resources to curtail your addiction, but you may face triggers after rehabilitation, instilling you with the urge to use again. A drug addiction aftercare program helps recovering addicts cope with the facets of everyday life and avoid relapse. Individuals participate in activities that enable them to effectively manage their stress, triggers, and urges to use substances.

Here at United Recovery Project, we offer a robust addiction aftercare program that empowers recovering addicts to stay sober, find purpose in life, and reach their long-term goals. Our staff works diligently with every client to ensure they have a plan after leaving our luxury drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.

The standard drug addiction aftercare program typically consists of the following:

  • Sober living homes
  • Ongoing drug addiction therapy
  • An alumni program
  • Recovery meetings

Sober Living Homes

Sober living homes provide a substance-free environment that fosters healing and enables residents to rebuild independence. After participating in substance abuse detox programs and receiving drug and alcohol addiction treatment, many individuals reside in a sober living home before returning to their primary residence. Since recovering addicts are in the initial stages of recovery, they don’t have as much experience confronting their triggers. Resident must adhere to specific ground rules that create a positive and safe experience for all individuals in the home.

Here at United Recovery Project, we have gender-specific sober living homes just minutes away from the Atlantic Coast. Moreover, every home has premium amenities and a resort-style pool where residents can destress while taking in the Floridian sun. Our clinical director assigns each resident a therapist that provides care and support during their sober living home experience.

Ongoing Drug Addiction Therapy

Participating in individual and group therapy is a valuable element of recovery that should not stop after treatment. Many drug addiction experts recommend that individuals attend weekly therapy sessions and gradually reduce the sessions to bi-weekly and then monthly. Continuing to receive therapy helps individuals learn how to cope with newfound triggers, gain a deeper understanding of their emotions, and manage the everyday stressors of “real life.” Some of the most common forms of therapy that are especially healing to recovering drug addicts include:

  • Art therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Motivational therapy
  • Nutrition therapy
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)

Recovery Meetings

It’s essential to attend recovery meetings after receiving luxury addiction treatment. Recovery meetings are typically informal sessions where recovering addicts can share their stories, create a support system, and gain new resources to help maintain sobriety. Organizations that host addiction recovery meetings include Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Local nonprofits and churches also hold recovery meetings, so be sure to inquire with your local Bureau of Substance Abuse to learn more. Best of all, recovery meetings are usually free and available throughout the United States.

Alumni Program

Most drug rehabilitation centers have an alumni program that allows graduates to stay connected after treatment. Alumni programs have a coordinator that plans events and facilitates communication amongst participants. Alumni programs typically host in-person and virtual events where recovering addicts can discuss their experiences and share tips and tricks that help them stay sober and avoid triggers. Individuals enjoy engaging activities while building their support system and making lifelong relationships.

At United Recovery Project, our alumni program is the backbone of our community. Our team encourages every graduate to participate in our alumni program, whether in South Florida or across the country. We host guest speakers who share their inspiring stories and remind us that we do recover, all while uplifting our spirits and keeping us on course.

How To Stay Sober

Every recovering addict’s long-term goal is to stay sober, but for some, it’s easier said than done. Some individuals may relapse multiple times before they’re able to stay sober for the long haul. After leaving our luxury rehab center, you can maintain sobriety by:

  • Building a solid support system that supports your goals
  • Understanding your triggers and how to avoid them
  • Continuing to attend individual and group therapy sessions
  • Residing in a sober living home after treatment
  • Participating in a substance abuse alumni program
  • Taking advantage of local recovery meetings

Now, what happens if you get off track and relapse? First, don’t panic – many recovering addicts relapse and have to enter recovery again. Relapsing doesn’t mean you failed; it means you just have a bit more work to do to get back on course. Since many of our staff members are recovering addicts, we know the struggles like the back of our hands. Before you leave drug addiction treatment, we’ll help you create a backup action plan that spells out what you should do if you relapse. Please reach out to us if you’re experiencing signs of drug addiction or relapse – we understand individuals may cave to their cravings and start using again; however, we’re here to advocate for your long-term success. If you relapse, we’re happy to help you get back into drug detox.

Creating A Plan After Drug Rehab

Our licensed therapists and counselors will work with you to ensure that you have a post-rehab plan that sets you up for success. Effective post-rehab plans include:

  • Living arrangements (i.e., a sober living home or your primary residence)
  • A detailed therapy schedule
  • Recovery meeting and 12 step program resources
  • An individual who will act as a sponsor to your sobriety
  • A backup plan in case you start using drugs again
